Writing Biographies: I interview each artist and then write a biography on that
individual. I also photograph the
artist and some of his or her artwork and then include these pictures as part
of the publication. This biography can
be used as a handout for potential customers, the basis for a brochure, or
placed on a website. It is ideal for artists applying for inclusion in exhibitions overseas. The biographies include general background information on the
lives of the artists, such as where they grew up and other details about their personal life that seem relevant to their development as an artist. I also include information about the
artist’s training and a description of any stylistic influences, such as
another particular artist or school of artists.
A general description of the styles and media used by the artist and a discussion of particular works by the artist round
out the biography. In return, artists compensate me for my time by giving me a piece of their artwork. Information on Valerie Kanney Ficklin:EducationM.A. in Art History, August 2000.
